The Lifetime Fitness Program is the first University-based adult fitness program in the world and has been running at the University of Illinois since 1944. This unique program is open to all adults over 55 years of age living in the Champaign-Urbana area and includes a variety of activities such as supervised walking/jogging, stretching and strengthening exercise, weight training and pool activities. These exercise and physical activity opportunities are designed to develop overall improvement in health, fitness and performance of activities of daily living. Directed by Professor Ken Wilund, the staff is comprised of graduate students from the Department of Kinesiology at the University of Illinois. In addition, undergraduate Kinesiology students work with the program to develop fitness instructional skills.
